Contributed by: kbaerI am about to begin live beer tasting and blogging at BBC 11.
Rob Widmer is serving and describing Widmer Brothers Prickly Pear Braggot. He describes it as a combination of mead and old ale. My tasting of it reveals a sweet, smooth brew with a pronounced honey flavor and hint of prickly pear juice. I don’t get a lot of aroma from the glass, but I find this beer very drinkable with a nice, lingering sweetness. I like it!

Contributed by: kbaerLast night, a group of beer bloggers and craft beer industry people, many from out of town, got a taste of Portland’s beer scene. Organized by Bill Night and Charles Culp, the crawl began at the conference headquarters at Lloyd Center Doubletree, and went to the Widmer pilot brewery at the Rose Quarter, Deschutes Brewery and Pub, Lucky Labrador NW at Quimby, and the New Old Lompoc. It was a clear, warm evening, but not too hot, much to the relief of those who I talked with from Mississippi, Washington …

Contributed by: kbaerTaplister turns 2 years old today. When we started, we were just in our home town of Portland, Oregon. Now, we support 52 cities across the US. We most recently added Olympia, Washington.
To commemorate our anniversary, we’re planning on celebrating this evening (July 6) at Apex (SE 12th and Division). It’s a good evening to join us for some good beer, because Fort George is taking over the taps at Apex today. We at Taplister are big fans of Fort George. If you like pepper spiced beer, make sure you …

Contributed by: kbaerThis Tuesday Widmer Brothers Brewing held a press event to update the local press about what they’ve been up to lately. The event was held at Saraveza and hosted by the actual Widmer Brothers, Kurt and Rob, as well as their brewers and PR staff. On tap were Drifter Pale Ale, Pitch Black IPA, Nelson Imperial IPA (formerly Deadlift Imperial IPA), X-114, and experimental mead, and probably some others. The chef at Saraveza came up with some tasty bites that were paired with the different Widmer Brothers beers.
Kurt and Rob …

We now have a cool new way to see how Taplister is expanding, and which cities have embraced Taplister, and which ones are still getting up to speed. Just click the “Cities” button on Taplister.com’s navigation bar to bring up the new map. It may take a few seconds while it puts together the data.
Using the latest Google Maps API, the new map takes current list of cities and places a beer glass icon on their locations. …

Contributed by: kbaerOn Sunday, February 13, 2011, an event took place at Portland’s Horse Brass Pub to celebrate the life of the legendary publican Don Younger, who recently passed away. There was a private gathering inside the pub, and a public gathering in a large tent in the parking lot behind the pub.
I wasn’t sure what to expect from the event, other than high probability of good beer, and a higher probability that many of my good friends in the craft beer community would be there. I was not disappointed. As I …
